Pedagogical Approaches for Sustainable Development in Building in Higher Education

Education for sustainable development (ESD) is one of the great challenges that university faculties have to face. Therefore, a multidisciplinary team from faculty Engineering Gipuzkoa (EIG) at University Basque Country (UPV/EHU) has developed pedagogical approaches apply in construction degrees, namely Civil and Technical Architecture. Pedagogical tools, such as problem-based learning (PBL) or research-based (RBL), environmental life cycle assessment (LCA) computational thinking (CT), been used; doing so, they acquire approach work “soft-skills” competencies into sustainability. For example, tools helped revalorize waste both outside inside university; contributed more industrial processes, collaborative research projects, participation conferences scientific publications. Based on academic results, designed are appropriate teaching Architecture degrees; however, demonstrate their potential terms education, holistic rubrics based in-depth quantitative educational required. Thus, analyze ability students incorporate sustainability principles work, presenting this paper plans collaborate with psychologists sociologists within framework Bizia-Lab program UPV/EHU.
